Privacy

OfficiantScript is operated by Archelaus LLC. This page describes what we collect, why, how long we keep it, and what you can ask us to do with it.

What you give us

To write a ceremony we ask for details about the people in it — a couple’s names and how they met, or a person who has died and what their family remembers. Some of it may be about you; some of it will be about other people. This is sensitive information, sometimes including religious affiliation and details about a death, and we treat it that way.

• Your questionnaire answers, and every version of your script.
• The email address you use at checkout.
• A payment record from Stripe. We never see or store your card details.
• If you answer the review request we email a few days after a wedding: your star rating, any comment, and whether we may quote it and with which first name. Review answers are stored with your order and published only if you tick the box that allows it.
• How you arrived and the device used when the questionnaire is started. If you reach us from an ad or another site, we keep the campaign tags and click identifiers from that link, the name of the site that sent you, and the page you landed on. We also record your browser identifier and country and, where the sharing described below is permitted, your IP address. This is kept with your ceremony and used only to measure our own advertising. The device details are removed from an unfinished draft after 90 days. The remaining local attribution is deleted when your ceremony is deleted.

What we do not do

• We do not log your questionnaire content or your script. Our operational logs record counts, timings, and error codes — never the words you wrote. This is enforced in code by an allowlist of the fields that may be logged.
• We do not sell your information, and none of your ceremony answers is shared for advertising. The narrow information we share with Google for advertising measurement is described below. Google never receives your name, questionnaire answers, or script.
• We do not train models on your ceremony. Your answers are sent to our language-model provider only to generate and rewrite your own script.

Who processes it

• Vercel — hosting. Every request to this site passes through it, and it collects anonymous, cookie-free page analytics. Pages whose address contains your private link are excluded from those analytics.
• Supabase — database and file storage.
• Anthropic — generating and rewriting your script. Your answers are sent as part of that request.
• Stripe — payment processing.
• Postmark — sending your delivery link.
• Sentry — error monitoring. When something on the site fails, Sentry receives technical details of the error: where in our code it happened, the browser and device type, and the page address with any private link removed. A sample of page loads also sends timing data. Sentry does not receive request bodies or recordings of your session, and it keeps these reports for its own limited retention period.
• Google — advertising measurement. Google’s tag sets cookies on this site (except as described below for Europe) and, if you arrive from one of our ads and buy, receives the purchase amount and an opaque payment reference from its browser tag. At the contact step, the tag receives the address you type, in your browser, and sends Google a hashed form of it rather than the address. Our server-side conversion import sends the stored Google ad click identifiers, a hashed form of the checkout email that we compute ourselves, the IP address and browser identifier from when the questionnaire was started, an opaque order reference, and the purchase amount. An email hash is a one-way representation, not the email address. Visitors from the EEA, United Kingdom, and Switzerland, and visitors whose country we cannot determine, are excluded from both the hashed-email and IP-address sharing. For visitors in the EEA, United Kingdom, and Switzerland, Google’s tag runs with advertising and analytics storage denied, so it sets no cookies and sends Google only cookieless measurement. Google never receives your name, questionnaire answers, or script, and pages whose address contains your private link never load its tag at all. If your browser sends Global Privacy Control, none of the advertising sharing in this paragraph happens; see below.

Global Privacy Control

When your browser sends a Global Privacy Control (GPC) signal, we treat it as a request to opt out of sharing your information for advertising, and we honor it for that browser. You do not need to change any setting on this site. With GPC on:

• Google’s tag is not loaded at all, so Google Analytics does not count your visit and no Google cookies are set by this site.
• No purchase conversion and no contact-step email is sent to Google Ads.
• A purchase whose checkout your browser opened with GPC on is left out of our server-side conversion import, so Google receives no click identifier, email hash, or IP address for it.

Vercel’s cookie-free page analytics still count your visit.

How long we keep it

Your ceremony, your script, and your rendered files are kept for the 12-month access window that starts when you buy. At the end of that window they are deleted. About 21 days before then we email you so you can download everything first. If that email cannot be sent we keep trying until the window closes, but the deletion happens on schedule either way.

If you start a ceremony and do not buy it, your answers are kept so you can come back and finish. They stay until you ask us to delete them; the device details described above are removed after 90 days.

A review you did not let us quote is deleted with your ceremony. A review you did let us quote is kept after that, with its rating, comment, and the first name you chose, but no longer with your email address.

Deleted information can remain in our database provider’s routine backups until those backups expire on the provider’s schedule.

We keep the payment record and the email address longer, because tax and accounting rules require it. That record does not contain your ceremony content.

The local advertising attribution stored with a purchased ceremony is deleted when the ceremony is deleted. Google keeps the measurement information it has already received under its own retention policies; deleting the local copy does not delete Google’s copy.

How access works

There is no account and no password. A purchase mints a random token, and the link we email you contains it. We store only a hash of that token, never the token itself — which means we cannot recover your original link, only issue you a new one. The link carries no name, no email address, and nothing else about you.

Anyone with the link can read and edit your ceremony. That is deliberate: the link is meant to be passed around the people involved — an officiant, a co-officiant, the couple, the family. You can stop every link at once from inside the editor.

Your choices

• Ask us for a copy of what we hold about you.
• Ask us to correct it.
• Ask us to delete your ceremony before the access window ends. We will do it, and it cannot be undone.
• Ask us to stop emailing you.

Children

The service is not intended for anyone under 18, and we do not knowingly collect information from children.

If there is a breach

If a breach affects your private information and you live in New York, we will notify you as New York General Business Law § 899-aa (the SHIELD Act) requires — in the most expedient time possible and without unreasonable delay, and no later than 30 days after the breach is discovered, unless a law-enforcement agency determines that notice would impede a criminal investigation. Wherever you live, we will also notify you as other state and federal breach-notification law requires.
